The Ouachita-Calhoun County Literacy Council empowers adults in its community to grow their potential and take advantage of their opportunities. By providing free tutoring in reading, writing, math, and ESL, the OCCLC aims to make adults in its community more self-sufficient, employable, and prepared for continued education.

Serving the city of Camden, New Jersey for 25 years, UrbanPromise Ministries has been building a city of promise...one child at a time. Beginning as one summer camp run out of a struggling church, the ministry quickly grew to include multiple summer camps, after school programs, job trainings, and alternative schools.
Although I cannot help every person in need single-handed, I have found that there are plenty others willing to help. It would be great if we had a network of like-minded individuals, collaborating and moving forward in a concerted effort to create opportunity.
On Jan. 16, 2012, we will celebrate the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a national holiday. Dr. King sought to unify people to support each other, speak out against wrongs and lend a hand when needed.
