Opportunity Nation Summit Highlights Economic Mobility On Local Level•
The Opportunity Nation Summit highlighted ways that thought-leaders are breaking the mold when it comes to advancing economic mobility.
At its second annual gathering in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, Opportunity Nation hosted foundation leaders, policymakers, business leaders, disadvantaged youth and others to discuss solutions and ideas for change specifically focused on equipping young people with the skills to compete.
Opportunity Nation, a group of nonprofits, businesses and other organizations that work to expand economic mobility, hosted panels focusing on topics ranging from journalism as a means for social change to geography’s impact on access to opportunity.
Speakers at Wednesday’s summit included Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, and panelists such as Emily DeRocco, senior advisor for Mitt Romney for President; John Bussey, from the Wall Street Journal and Peter Beard, SVP for Impact Priorities for United Way.
Opportunity Nation also released its annual “opportunity index” on Wednesday, which gives a local-level snapshot of circumstances conducive to economic mobility, providing stakeholders and citizens with a launching pad to create solutions.
