Opportunity Nation 2018 Transitions

by Monique Rizer   •

Dear friends of Opportunity Nation,

I’m writing to share that December 31 will be my last day leading Opportunity Nation.

Over the last two and a half years it has been an honor for this team to produce a bold national plan for the country, build a bigger tent for those who care about expanding opportunity, produce original research on the retail industry, and update the Opportunity Index with new data that reflects evolving needs in the opportunity movement. We’ve provided platforms for bipartisan leaders to introduce bills positively impacting children and youth and served as an honest broker facilitating conversations with members of Congress to discuss how to expand early work experiences for Opportunity Youth across sectors and party lines. We’ve worked to build, connect and elevate the voices of our Coalition, reaching 115 million people in the country every year. And we’ve shared the stories of our Coalition and common sense solutions to close the opportunity gap with 735 million readers and listeners in 50 media placements.

Look for updates in the new year about Opportunity Nation’s exciting next steps from Alan Khazei, CEO and Founder of Be The Change Inc., Opportunity Nation’s governing organization.

Meanwhile, please stay in touch. I look forward to sharing more about my next steps in the new year, when I will be working with Aspen Institute Vice Presidents Anne Mosle and Peggy Clark as a special advisor and consultant on an exciting effort to catalyze and elevate new conversations, solutions and multi-sector leadership to advance opportunity for women and girls throughout the United States and around the world.

I want to thank the Opportunity Nation team — six incredible women who you’re going to see do amazing work in the coming years — and all the Coalition members and Opportunity Leaders who work so hard every day to expand opportunity.

Work at this scale cannot happen without investors and partners. Thanks also goes to the private and philanthropic organizations who have invested in the campaign over the last seven years. I look forward to seeing what we’ll continue to accomplish together as a movement.

It has been a privilege to work with all of you and a privilege leading Opportunity Nation.

With gratitude,
Monique
