Follow me as I tour through our nation’s capital! I am working for Opportunity Nation during my Harry S. Truman scholarship Summer Institute. The Truman Scholarship is a living memorial to President Truman and annually selects approximately 60 young people committed to public service. I am grateful to be a member of the Truman community and even more grateful to spend my summer working for Opportunity Nation.
I will be spending today in the Supreme Court and meeting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, as well as, meeting numerous prominent public service leaders. During the next two days I will tour and meet with people at the Pentagon and Capitol Hill.
Jacob is a Harry S. Truman Scholar and finds solutions to improve the community by working closely with others. He has worked on state health care legislation, coordinated a capacity building organization SouthCoast Serves, wrote service learning curriculum, opened the university’s first student-run business Jumpin’ Juice, created workforce development programs, started biannual youth civic engagement summits, and has helped register hundreds of people to vote. He also served as an elected student representative to the UMass Board of Trustees. He enjoys running, kayaking, cycling, reading and hanging out with his friends.
