As Opportunity Nation’s Coalition & Advocacy Manager, Juanita leads the strategic expansion, engagement and mobilization of Opportunity Nation’s Coalition in a collective advocacy effort driving policy change and impact at the local, state and federal levels.
Juanita comes to Opportunity Nation from America Forward where she advanced their 2016 Presidential engagement efforts — meeting the candidates and their teams out on the trail and elevating outcomes-driven policy solutions, as well as launching a series of community forums and deploying organizers in key battleground states.
In addition to this work, Juanita has a wealth of experience in public policy, politics and leading change management initiatives. To date, her career has focused largely on serving, and advocating on behalf of, underserved and underrepresented communities in the US and abroad. From her work collaborating with a dedicated, under-resourced teaching staff in Kenya, and serving as a liaison to stakeholders at DC Public Schools, to engaging voters as a Regional Field Director for a gubernatorial campaign, working on Capitol Hill and in two Federal agencies, Juanita brings a valuable perspective on the direct impact policies have on communities, how to make lasting change at the community level and how to navigate challenging political contexts.
Juanita is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and she currently resides in Arlington, Virginia.
Juanita was born in Portsmouth City, VA. Her 2016 Opportunity Score/Grade is 46.1/C.
