WIA and Other Things That Have Been Around Since 1998

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA), a $3 billion program that funds education and career services for adults and at-risk youth, was introduced 16 years ago and has not been updated since 2003. Here are some other things that have been around since 1998.

The Internet, Spice Girls, cell phones and Justin Timberlake’s hair have all received an update since 1998, so should the Workforce Investment Act. That’s why we’re incredibly excited that a bipartisan group of Senators and Representatives recently announced they had reached a deal to reauthorize WIA. If this bill passes, it would be a huge win in the fight to reduce youth unemployment and expand opportunity for young adults.

We don’t want to see dial-up or an outdated WIA ever again.  Learn more about the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act from our Opportunity Nation Fact Sheet and contact your representative to urge them to support WIOA!
