Frequently Asked Questions

What is Opportunity Nation?

Opportunity Nation is a bipartisan, national campaign of more than 300 businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions and community leaders working to expand economic opportunity. Opportunity Nation seeks to close the opportunity gap by amplifying the work of its Coalition members, advocating policy and private sector actions, and releasing the annual Opportunity Index, a composite measure at the state and county levels of economic, educational and civic factors that foster opportunity.

What does Opportunity Nation do?

We advocate bipartisan federal policy change, catalyze and elevate private sector and community actions, and spread awareness about opportunity issues in order to help more Americans, particularly youth, get their fair shot at success. We also hold convenings and gatherings around the country. Learn more about our solutions and impact.

What is the Opportunity Index?

The Opportunity Index provides a snapshot of economic, educational and civic health in all 50 states, Washington, DC and more than 2,100 counties. The Index is updated annually. Explore the data and learn your opportunity score.

What legislation do you support?

We support several bipartisan federal bills as well as programs and policies that expand opportunity. Our advocacy efforts are currently focused on helping teens and young adults find meaningful educational and career pathways, and reducing youth unemployment. Our policy work is informed by the Opportunity Index, which shows us that when our young adults do well, communities are more likely to do well.
